As timely today as when this "60 Minutes" report went to air more than 20 years ago .. the debate over censorship and what we should be able to watch on Australian Television and now the Internet. Airing in 1989 .. this is Part 1 of a 2 part piece titled "Broadcast News" that aired on "60 Minutes" and was hosted by the late Richard Carleton exploring whether censorship by the TV producers at the TV networks across our country is reflective of what we can and should be able to watch on television and the nightly news broadcasts. Timely at this point in March 2011 - as we watch scenes of bloodied and dead bodies from Libya but are not permitted to watch a schoolyard bully in Sydney get his payback from the kid he was bullying. Great debate lets have more of it .. but has anything really changed in 20 years .. I think not. European viewers are still treated like they are adults while Australian viewers are still apparently impressionable teenagers or even children by viewing standards. Tried and true veterans of the business like Sydney's Ian Cook (News Director and Producer) and Melbourne's David Johnston (Journalist and Anchor) feature in this story.
