Placement of hardware is based on preference. There are no rules. However, it is common to place knobs and handles in the center of drawer fronts. Hardware is often placed in the upper corner opposite the hinges on lower doors, and on the lower corner opposite the hinges on upper doors. Templates are available in our Toolkit at RefaceSuppies.com Be sure to measure to the door you are working on and not to the doors nearby. Remember that door adjustments are made during the last step. Once the doors are adjusted the hardware will align perfectly. You may need longer machine screws for drawers than you do for doors because you are going through the drawer box too. Always use a block of wood to drill into when drilling for hardware. This will prevent what is referred to as blowout. This is where splinters of wood are forced out by the drill bit pushing through. Using a wood backstop keeps resistance on the bit until after it passes through the surface eliminating blowout. Do not overtighten the screws on hardware. If you are using a power drill be sure to use a clutch to control the torque. Not doing so could result in damage to the door or hardware. Repeat this process until all of the hardware is applied to the cabinets. You are now ready for the finishing touches.
