** Effective January 1, 2024, the involved suspect's booking photos have been blurred out, in compliance with Assembly Bill (AB) 994, (amending California Penal Code (PC) Section 13655), which addresses the sharing of booking photos on social media by law enforcement. -------- On December 8, 2023, around 5:00 p.m., a Los Angeles Police Department officer assigned to the Community Safety Partnership Bureau was driving a marked police vehicle eastbound on Century Boulevard with the vehicle’s emergency equipment activated. As the officer approached the green phased tri-light signal on McKinley Avenue, a pedestrian was crossing southbound Century Boulevard outside of the marked crosswalk, when the officer’s vehicle collided with the pedestrian. The driver officer and responding officers began to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) on the pedestrian. Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded and transported the pedestrian to a local hospital, where the pedestrian succumbed to their injuries. The pedestrian was not carrying any identification and Detectives are working with the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office to identify the pedestrian. The Multi-Disciplinary Collision Investigation Team (MCIT) responded to the scene to conduct an investigation and will be presenting the case to the District Attorney Office for filing considerations. Chief Michel Moore stated, “While we are in the very preliminary stages of the investigation, I have very serious concerns regarding the officer’s driving leading up to the collision. An Internal Affairs investigation has been initiated, and additional information will be provided as it becomes available.” Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Traffic Group Detectives at 213-486-0690.
