Helical tape Krishna Tandav Manipuri Ras Sharon Lowen 1979 I began training in Manipuri with Smt Minati Roy while at U of Michigan during my BA Honors studies in Humanities, Fine Arts and Asian Studies (Boad of Governors approved uniquely for me). After my MA in Dance with minor in Photography and Video Production, I continued study as a Fulbright scholar in New Delhi under Guru Singhajit Singh from 1973 with two summers in Manipur training under JNU Manipuri Dance akademi gurus including Ranjani Maibi and Kumar Maibi for ritual Maibi Jagoi and Oja Thanjam Chaoba Singh for Kartal cholom and Ras with faculty. From 1978-81 I was based in San Diego, California where I taught and performed as well as presenting Manipuri and Odissi for over 250 school programs in the Los AngelesUnified School District and performed up and down the West Coast from Oregon to Mexico. Those 3 years were the longest I was out of India where I reside over more than 50 years, still performing, teaching Odissi, lecturing, writing about Odissi, Manipuri, Chhau, performing arts and Indian culture. I was amazed to find this video that had somehow survived to be digitized and shared as archival interest. It has been my honor and pleasure to share a few drops from the ocean of classical Indian dance over the decades to rasikas in India and around the world.
