The PhD Journey of Dr. Jan Staš In vitro growth-inhibitory effect of plant-derived products against beverage-spoiling microorganisms In this video, we follow the PhD journey of Jan Staš, a doctoral researcher at the BioResources & Technology (BRT) Division and the Food Security Research Group, Faculty of Tropical AgriSciences, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague. His research explores the potential of natural plant-derived products to prevent beverage spoilage, with a particular focus on tropical fruit juices. Through in vitro testing of plant-based compounds against beverage-spoiling microorganisms, his work contributes to the development of safer, more sustainable preservation strategies that reduce reliance on synthetic additives. During his doctoral studies, Jan actively participated in more than 10 development projects and international conferences, and completed three international research internships in Thailand and Vietnam. His work reflects a strong commitment to food security, applied research, and innovation in tropical agrobiological systems.
