It's been a busy few weeks for Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb. On Oct. 13, he announced a $100 million settlement with the Haslam Sports Group that will pave the way for the Browns to play in a new domed stadium in Brook Park. The city says the money from HSG will go toward redeveloping the lakefront, including the demolition of the current Huntington Bank Field on the lakefront. Among the public, there's been praise and criticism of the agreement. Earlier this week, he defended the deal with HSG in a hearing with Cleveland City Council. "I'm pissed. I'm sad. I have a lot of amazing memories of going to football game with my dad when he was alive. But unfortunately, we were dealt a bad hand, and now we have to pick ourselves up and fight for a new chapter for our city because our residents deserve it," Bibb said. That new chapter includes his desire to close Burke Lakefront Airport, clearing up more valuable space on the lakefront. This week, Bibb and Cuyahoga County Executive Chris Ronayne wrote to members of Congress and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy asking for their assistance in the complicated process.
