An eventful Milk Run Monday with Qantas 490 service from Melbourne Tullamarine to Sydney Kingsford Smith. Holding at TARAL, and then a missed approach by order of ATC (Another aircraft was lining up for departure while we were on short final). Quite a few slip ups on my part throughout the flight (see if you can spot them) but eventually we had a safe touchdown on Sydney's 16L - though I slammed that nosewheel down hard). 0:00 Preflight Briefing 1:47 Listening to ATIS and changing departure RWY 6:10 Preflight & Before start checklist 9:21 Pushback clearance 14:34 Before taxi checklist 16:12 Taxi clearance 21:56 Lineup clearance 24:36 Takeoff clearance 26:05 Handoff to Departures 28:00 STAR clearance 32:27 Instructions for holding at TARAL 39:07 Handoff to Approach 45:23 Cleared ILS RWY 16L approach 46:52 Handoff to Tower 49:14 Tower clears Egyptair 611 for takeoff 49:32 Go-around issued by Tower 56:02 Established localiser RWY 16L 56:59 Handoff to Tower 58:46 Landing Clearance 1:00:33 Runway vacated & switching over to Ground 1:14:32 Arrival at bay 10 and engine shutdown So why did we have to go around? I believe it was partly due to the tower controller forgetting or not noticing how close we were on final, because he cleared an aircraft that was holding short of the same runway for takeoff while we were at about 800 feet (you can see this in the video linked above). Now it was my fault too because I didn't pick up on that - if I had, I could have mentioned on frequency that we were on final and the tower controller have immediately asked the aircraft lining up to hold position. Eventually at 500 feet he asked us to go-around, possibly because the controller software (I believe VATPAC uses Euroscope) gave him an alert about the impending collision. Or he might have just suddenly seen us coming in on his scope. Either way, made for a nice bit of practice on the go-around procedure in the NG. #melbourne #sydney #milkrunmonday #vatsim #pmdg737 #msfs2020
