Global oil supplies are under pressure as tensions rise in West Asia. With the conflict involving the United States, Israel, and Iran, oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz — one of the world’s most critical energy routes — are being disrupted. To stabilise markets and prevent a major supply shock, countries are tapping into Strategic Petroleum Reserves (SPR). The U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve is releasing 172 million barrels of crude oil, while the International Energy Agency has coordinated a massive global release of around 400 million barrels from member countries. Strategic Petroleum Reserves are emergency oil stockpiles created after the 1973 Oil Crisis to protect economies from sudden disruptions caused by wars, disasters, or price spikes. Major economies like the United States, China, Japan, and India maintain these reserves. In India, crude oil is stored in underground caverns at Visakhapatnam, Mangaluru, and Padur as part of the country’s energy security strategy. #StrategicPetroleumReserve #OilCrisis #Oil #StraitOfHormuz #GlobalOil #OilMarkets #War #Geopolitics #CrudeOil #OilPrices #EnergyCrisis #CurrentAffairs #VisionIAS
