Today on our utility trailer we're going to show you how to install the Optronics three-function LED stop, turn, and taillight. This is red with the clear lens, and it's 4" round. Part number is STL53RCB. Here you can see the light once it's working. Nice, clear lens, but it still gives us that really nice, clear, pure red light coming through it. It offers ten diodes. It gives us superior LED power. As opposed to incandescent lights, these are going to generate less heat and also draw less power from our vehicle. Now of course to replace our light we're going to have to get it out of here. To do that we're going to just go right underneath in between the grommet and the light. Just start pulling out on it. You can see, there it goes. You might have to get a couple bites to get it all the way out, but which it a little bit at a time and it will come out of there. Replace our light, we want to remove the pigtail there and set that light aside. We're going to replace out our pigtail as well. To replace the pigtail, let's just take our three wires and we'll cut them off there, throw our old pigtail aside. We'll go through and strip the end off our wires on the trailer here. We're also going to be taking the ring terminal off of the end of our pigtail. We're going to wire that directly to the ground wire. Now if that doesn't exist, you can see the ring terminal, a self-tapping screw through there drilled into the frame of the trailer is all you need for a nice, solid ground. We'll trim that. Let's also strip these back. Now let's grab a few heat shrink butt connectors and we'll make our connections. Just going to twist up the ends of our wires here. Slot our wire down in and then we'll crimp it. We'll bring in our new pigtail and match it up color for color there. Now your trailer might have different color wires. You might have to check them in see what signal sends what, but typically if it's already got lights in there, they should be pretty consistent with what we've got. Now these heat shrink butt connectors are available on our website. What we'll do now is use either a heat gun, or I'm just going to use a lighter. These ends will shrink down around the wire. Then if you're using a lighter, you just use the very bottom of the flame there down there where it's blue. That won't give you any of that carbon buildup, that black, powdery looking residue, like that. That will be nice and neat and waterproof so we won't have to worry about corrosion. Now we're also going to be replacing our grommet. You can see it's just getting old or getting brittle. This part number A54GB. If you're going to replace that when you replace your light or when you replace your pigtail, just pick one up. Now we're going to bring our wiring through the middle of our grommet of course. You can see that edge right there. That wants to go behind the metal. We just need to make sure we get that in all the way around. With that corner right there, it could be a little more difficult, but it's going to go. As you do it, watch your flange there. The more of that we can have out and flat, the better water protection we'll get. Now all we've got left to do is just plug in our light here. On these larger ones, might want to use a little bit of soap. It just really depends on how well this hole was cut out before. This will help slide it in a little bit. Just going to place that side in, just slowly work it into place where we want it. Now we'll turn on the running lights in our truck and make sure it's working properly. With our light working properly, that's going to complete today's installation of the Optronics sealed 4" round LED stop, turn, and taillight, featuring ten red diodes and clear lenses.
