DMU RAILWAY STATION REDEVELOPMENT STALLED AMID LAND COMPENSATION DISPUTE The ambitious redevelopment project of Dimapur Railway Station, with a budget of Rs. 283 crore, is facing potential delays due to a dispute over land compensation. The Railway Affected LandOwners Association (RALOA), representing over 300 landowners, is demanding fair compensation as per the Railway Act before they relinquish their land. Khekaho Assumi, Convenor of RALOA, stated that landowners are willing to cooperate but only if compensated adequately, ensuring they receive more than just the market value for their land. RALOA is invoking Article 371A of the Indian Constitution to protect the land rights of the Naga people. While the matter is currently under legal review, RALOA remains open to dialogue with authorities. However, they insist on a fair compensation package for affected landowners before any land is transferred for the project. S. Hukavi Zhimomi, Advisor to RALOA, emphasized the importance of respecting Naga land rights as guaranteed by Article 371A. He urged both the state and central governments to ensure proper discussions, agreements, and fair compensation are provided to landowners during the land acquisition process. He firmly stated that RALOA members will not give up their land without receiving just payment, potentially stalling the railway station's redevelopment. .
