Yazzie vs NM and National Implications for Education Rights of Minorities and Vulnerable Populations - November 19, 2019 On July 20, 2018, Judge Sarah Singleton of the 1st Judicial District Court in Santa Fe County ruled that State of New Mexico had failed to provide students from disadvantaged economic backgrounds, Native American students, English language learners and students with disabilities with a constitutionally guaranteed adequate and equitable education. This case—Yazzie/Martinez vs New Mexico—is a landmark decision in the fight for education equity with repercussions well beyond New Mexico. Our distinguished panel of educators and social activists will talk about the origins of the case, its impact on NM education policy and its national implications for minority education rights. Moderator: Everette W. Hill Panelists: Kara Bobroff, Gail Evans, Mayra Valtierrez, Julie Radoslovich
