The Specials - "Gangsters (12" Matisse Mix). A Myleslandia Video Mix by Myles Matisse. On Sunday, December 18th 2022 (in America), I found out Terry Hall, lead singer of The Specials died. So tragic and heartbreaking. He'd been such an incredible musical figure not just in The Specials but also with Fun Boy Three, The Colourfield, Terry, Blair & Anouchka, Vegas and solo as well. An absolute legend who left us at only 63. I decided to make a Matisse Audio Mix and Myleslandia Video Mix of "Gangsters" which spotlights him front and center. I made an extended video mix in Terry's honor using the original music video and their appearance on TopPop. Rest In Peace. You inspired me and countless people the world over with your talent, humanitarian efforts and fights against racial (and other) injustices. An incredible, incredible talent is gone. I hope everyone enjoys the video. Again, Rest In Peace Terence Edward Hall (March 19, 1959 - December 19, 2022). You'll be so, so missed by so, so many. - Myles "Gangsters" is the first single by the Special A.K.A. (The Specials). "Gangsters" was recorded in January 1979 in Studio One of Horizon Studios in Coventry. Horace Panter recalls that the song "had so much bass on it that it had to be recut as the bass blew the needle out of the record's grooves" and that "to compensate for the low end, Jerry [Dammers] overdubbed a treble-heavy piano on". The vocals were created by Terry Hall singing a "bored" vocal and an "angry" vocal, which were then mixed together. The Specials, also known as The Special AKA, are an English 2 Tone and ska revival band formed in 1977 in Coventry. After some early changes, the first stable lineup of the group consisted of Terry Hall and Neville Staple on vocals, Lynval Golding and Roddy Radiation on guitars, Horace Panter on bass, Jerry Dammers on keyboards, John Bradbury on drums, and Dick Cuthell and Rico Rodriguez on horns. Their music combines a "danceable ska and rocksteady beat with punk's energy and attitude". Lyrically, they present a "more focused and informed political and social stance". Are you planning a bootleg LP? Said you've been threatened by gangsters Now it's you, that's threatening me Can't fight corruption with con tricks They use the law to commit crime And I dread, dread to think what the future will bring When we're living in gangster time Don't call me scar face Can't interrupt while I'm talking Or they'll confiscate all your guitars And catch 22 says if I sing the truth They won't make me an overnight star Don't offer us legal protection They use the law to commit crime I dread to think what the future will bring When we're living in gangster time Bernie Rhodes knows Don't Argue
