A moto safari around Kajiado County. We start off through Kibiku Forest then under Ngong Hills to Oltepesi where we find our first camp for the night, Ammodump, Kwenia. In the morning we leave to ride to Magadi and get the first puncture of the trip. Fixed fairly quickly we arrive in Magadi, complete the paperwork that's required these days, then off towards the Hot Springs and then into the Hills and ravines near the border with Tanzania. After about 200km of some fantastic riding and scenery we arrive at our lodge for the night, Oldonyo Orok Camp. Wow! Great location and fantastic staff, excellent value for money too. Off to Namanga where the inner tube gets repaired by a cheerful chap for a very reasonable 200bob, there were 4 punctures in total. We buy supplies, toothpaste and fags and set off towards Amboseli and Kilimanjaro. Although on this trip she doesn't show her splendour. We encounter "real" Maasai and some wildlife, elephants and zebra, warthogs and other vegetarians. The AA Lodge was sadly poor, food choice was not great and the cottages are sadly in need of renovation. for $130USD/night it is very poor value, but after couple of beers and a whisky it doesn't matter so much. Well rested we set off into the Selenkay Conservancy and see hardly anyone or anything until we come across a watering hole and view elephants once again. We didn't see the lions that the area is most famous for, but there were plenty of recent kills to see as we rode by. Into the long lugger and Simon and I try and relax and enjoy the deep soft sand riding, Andy excels at this riding, unlike his feshfesh abilities. after we get closer to villages the river sand is extracted for the building industry and leaves huge holes and deep rutted soft sand, we opt to ride in the river bank a while, then nip up into a small town along the tarmac to refuel. After fuelling we cross the river and wind our way up into the hills with a fine mist of rain cementing the orange fesh onto Andy's KTM and his clothing. After some fantastic single track winding through the hills we drop down and make our way to the Maasai Eco Lodge and a warm welcome from Mary. A couple of cold beers by the pool and hot showers we sit down for our meal. it's an early night and an early start. Winding along through tracks and small roads we pass through the Kajiado marble quarries and drop onto the TATA soda railway line before passing through a gorge into Mile46 (Elangata Waus).Under Champagne Ridge and up to the tarmac road at Kisamis then retracing our steps under the Ngong Hills. Then, all too soon, the ride is over. 4.5 days and a little over 700km. No major dramas, lots of fun and laughs. The bikes are given a good clean, as well as Simon's face then it's back home for tea and medals. We met up a couple of hours later with some friends to share a fantastic Sunday dinner prepared and cooked by Alex, Simon's wife. Hope you enjoy this last Moto Safari from Kenya. I'm off to a new country where I hope to be able to ride and enjoy such freedom as I have in Kenya.
