After working tirelessly for nearly thirty years, the Anti Lock Brake System ABS on my Landrover Discovery does not work anymore. Because it is a pre- OBD car, a modern scanner is useless. So, where to start? Well, good ole diagnostics, I guess. Just start with the little things like fuses and work your way to relays and the modules. Thankfully it is a very simple system with few components. Most things you could test with simple testlight or a multimeter. But as you will seen, there are always pitfalls. The load side of Load Relay had some voltage on it. A typical case of ghost voltage. When it comes to measuring the signals of the inductive wheelspeedsensors, an oscilloscope comes in handy. For diagnosing the ABS ECU an oscilloscope is the best tool. The pulses from the ECU are just a couple of milliseconds long. If I could not have made them visible, calling a bad ECU would have been more of an assumption.
