Steps to recreate this: 1: Clean the old gas out by swishing with fresh gasoline. Drain 2: Cap holes and fill tank to the brim with 1/2 Vinegar and 1/2 Tap Water. Leave the cap loosely on. 3: Let the reaction complete (To where it no longer smells like vinegar.) 4: Agitate the loose rust in the tank with nuts/washers and then use degreaser and a garden hose/ pressure washer to remove all the loose scale. (Removing all hardware is helpful) 5: Rinse well with distilled water a few times. 6: Drain and remove as much of the water as possible. 7: Using WD-40, splash enough around the tank to displace all the remaining water. Repeat until the WD-40 you drain has no water in it. 8: Rebuild petcocks/ gaskets and spray inside with a light rust prevention if the tank will be stored for a while.
