This is a video essay created for the FTV 51 class as a part of my film production major at UCLA. Bibliography: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1v... Creator Statement For this project, I decided to make a video essay. I used to make video essays regularly during and a bit after the pandemic. This final seemed like a good way to get back into the craft and make something that I could be proud of and look back on, rather than just an essay. Video essays have a rich history in the arts, especially when it comes to the concept of YouTube, virality, and viewership. Because I talk about all of these topics, it seemed like the obvious choice of medium. I used clips from various Nam June Paik videos (linked above) as well as videos from my childhood digital footprint and footage filmed by Maelle Griffin and I for finals last quarter. I had a lot of fun working on this project and dipping my toes back into video essay creation. It proved to be both a bit harder and significantly more rewarding than I was expecting. I hope you enjoy!
