Growing Potatoes in Grow Bags! Garden Bestie, did you know you can grow potatoes right on your patio or balcony using a simple grow bag? I’m using a 15-gallon grow bag for mine! Here’s how I did it: ✅ Added 2-3 inches of soil at the bottom ✅ Placed sliced potato pieces (each with at least 2 eyes) into the soil ✅ Covered with earthworm castings for a nutrient boost ✅ Topped with potting soil mix As the foliage grows, I’ll keep adding soil until the bag is full—this technique is called hilling potatoes and helps maximize yield! Pro Tip: I recommend cutting your potatoes into chunks and letting them sit in a dry, dark place for a few days. This allows them to develop a protective skin, which helps prevent rotting once planted. This step is optional—you can also plant a whole potato! You can start with seed potatoes or grab organic potatoes from the store. While they don’t have to be organic, I recommend it since many conventional potatoes are treated with chemicals that prevent sprouting, which could impact their growth.
