Here we go with the Celtic band of Maija Niemi, Tom and Mary Kay Aufrance, Pierre Ogea, Warren Hantz, Bruce Irving, Robert Yin, Carol Kasmer Irving, John Kibit, and Highland dancers Deborah Choszczyk, Heather Dombrowski, Valerie Schuhknecht and Lauren Culpepper for the crowd of standing-room-only friends who came out to our Scottish Music and Dance show. Thanks! About Ghillie Callum: The Sword Dance is one of the best known of all Highland dances. This is an ancient dance of warriors, performed prior to battles. However, today we dance it for entertainment and tradition. Performance of sword dances in Scotland goes back to as early as the 15th century. Legend says that Ghillie Callum was Noah's bagpiper. According to folklore, Noah, upon first drinking fermented wine, crossed two vines and danced above them while Ghillie Callum played the bagpipes. Later, how the dance exchanged crossed vines with swords is anybody's guess. Thank you for enjoying our performance of Ghillie Callum's Sword Dance at Marquette, Michigan Peter White Public Library.
