Dr.Nagavalli Nagaraj-Verses-Women lore identifies Arjuna & at Droupadi's svayaṃvara, Kalikarna stood subdued. Translation of the first verse Translation of the verse is as follows O king listen The group of maidens, seeing him, said: “Is this not Arjuna? He is endowed with surpassing beauty. If he wins this contest, it will be a blessing indeed. He shall become the noble bridegroom, the brother‑in‑law to our princess.” Thus, with delight, they praised him. Translation of the second poem Translation of the verse is as follows Karna came near and tugged at the bow. It did not bend; it would not rise from the ground. He pressed, shook, strained, and wrestled with it, then cried out in anger. To double his strength he twisted and turned, but missed by the breadth of a hair. Unable to fasten it, Kalikarna stood silent, subdued. Sangitacchoodamani Dr.Nagavalli Nagaraj is a distinguished classical vocalist born in family of musicians. A torchbearer of Karnataka’s classical heritage, Dr. Nagavalli Nagaraj stands as a revered figure in the world of Carnatic music. Her voice traverses all three octaves with power and nuance, weaving emotive tapestries that blend lyrical mastery with philosophical depth. As a composer, she has enriched the Carnatic repertoire with Shrungara padas, Tillanas, Ragamalikas, and innovative thematic works that reflect both devotion and daring. With a Ph.D. from Bangalore University for her seminal research on Mysore Vasudevacharya’s compositions, Dr. Nagaraj served as a senior faculty member in the Department of Performing Arts for over 35 years, mentoring generations of postgraduate students in both technical precision and artistic sensibility. Her accolades include the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award, Sangita Choodamani, Sangita Vidyavaridhi, Sangita Sudha Varshini, and Sangita Sharade, conferred by cultural and religious institutions in recognition of her contributions to music and scholarship. Internationally, she represented Karnataka as the State Artist for Amerika Kannada Koota Kootaagara (AKKA) at the Sammelana in Baltimore, USA, and continues to perform and lecture globally. Her recordings—spanning the full spectrum of Carnatic nuance—remain among the most comprehensive in the field, serving as both artistic inspiration and pedagogical resource.
