Our first destination in Antarctica was Point Wild on Elephant Island. That is where Ernest Shackelton left most of his crew as he sailed an open boat to South Georgia Island to get a rescue ship. We toured the point in Zodiacs. A statue of the Captain of the ship that rescued Shackelton's crew stands on the point. It may be the least seen statue on the planet. We spotted a Humpback Whale as we cruised on to Cape Lookout.
