LeBron’s 2nd game back exposed the issues for LA… Look at him falling asleep in the clutch, as his man casually walks by for the easiest points of the night. And seconds later, he completely milks the clock while everyone else is standing and watching him from the side, just to chalk up the contested 3 resulting in a brick. James almost cost them the game with this, and we got plenty more action from a busy Sunday night but we gotta start from the beginning of this game with Luka Doncic being in his usual bag. Luka led the Lakers with 15 points in the first half, but it was his handles and passing that got the crowd in shambles. Showtime! Luka nutmegs K.Love before throwing the lob to Hayes for the slam! And the magic didn’t stop there because… He throws a behind the head pass to the open Smart for the 3! His vision is unreal. Regardless, Doncic kept pouring in so the Lakers built a comfortable lead in the final period. Up by 13 under 5 minutes, LA wasn’t expecting any trouble, but the Jazz weren’t ready to surrender!A 10 to 3 run by Utah in just 2 minutes to narrow the gap to 6 points. And they ain’t done yet! Up by 4, can anyone stop the bleeding for the Lakers? Maxi Kleber, out of all people, gets past Nurkic and dunks the ball to give his team some breathing room. Then, follow LeBron on this play. James completely forgets about his matchup and lets him score with ease. And on the other end, I’ll just turn on the stopwatch to see how many seconds LeBron wasted off the clock… 9 seconds of standing still and watching James jab-stepping into a tough 3 which misses. But Markkanen didn't. Lauri makes the 3 in transition for a total madness in the arena. All of a sudden, we have a 1 point game! And the Lakers problems remain on the offensive end, as Doncic almost lost the ball… Reaves misses the desperate 3, and with the shot clock turned off, Markkanen goes for the knockout. Lauri creates a great look but the ball rims out of the rim, and now they must foul. So, they send Luka on the foul line who must hit both shots for the Lakers to be safe.. But he misses the 1st free throw, and the Jazz take the timeout to draw a potential game winning 3. Oh my goodness! Keyonte George took an impossible shot from the corner but hit the front iron, and the Lakers survived in the wild ending. With such experienced closers in LeBron and Luka on the court, I expected a much calmer finish.
