Dear All, Phacoemulsification in white cataract posed several challenges due to the absence of a red reflex, a pressurized capsular bag, a liquid cortex, an unpredictable anterior capsule, a dense nucleus with large mass, the absence of an epinucleus. These challenges can be overcome by careful preoperative evaluation, anterior capsule staining with trypan blue, use of high density ophthalmic viscoelastic devices (OVD- Healon 5), and careful nuclear emulsification with optimum use of phaco power and fluidic parameters.
