00:00 Introduction & context on Yunchan Lim 07:22 Reaction starts 10:00 Comparing to the score; creative choices 15:23 Reaction continues 23:50 Ramble on Tchaikovsky's arpeggios & Yunchan's choice 25:40 Reaction continues 26:28 Closing thoughts on the recording; virtuosity vs restraint 29:00 Outro thoughts on the video okay, trying this out too! there's a ton of classical music (both entirely new pieces, or recordings of stuff i know well) that i've been dying to expose myself to, and this channel could be a great place to do it. i know the existing audience isn't asking for this, and classical isn't too popular, but i've seen other channels that include it in the music they check out, so it's not impossible to synergize! also worth saying that i think future videos like this will be better, as i'm totally just learning how i might approach this kind of thing. so if you're interested in this generally, but not this particular video, then i think you'll like what i might do next with classical. so - who's the audience for this? importantly, i do NOT think i'm going to be doing any kind of commentary or review that is going to appeal to experienced pianists or classical afficionados (at least, not yet - i could try to make something in that vein someday). i think that if you're deep into these worlds already, that my reaction thoughts are not going to be interesting or entertaining. therefore, the audience is probably people who have a passing interest or are curious about classical and want to listen to something new with me, and see what someone more familiar (like myself) thinks about it. i really LOVE to talk about classical music and piano playing, but in a more "open" way - not as academic. i do use some terminology or music knowledge, but i'm hoping that it stays accessible to those who are NOT already well-versed. though i'm definitely not trying to teach about music... but perhaps, one could say that i'd be interested in teaching "music appreciation" rather than actual mechanics or theory. so if someone gains a better sense of how to listen, experience, and delve deeper into new areas of music, then that would really please me! as you can tell if you've noticed it, i'm just spouting off my thoughts in the descriptions. why not? at least one person said they read them. honestly, it's pretty useful because it gives me a place to add some thoughts or statements that i wish i'd made in the live recording, but only had afterwards. so, consider it an addendum! when/if i do more classical music reactions here on the channel, it'll likely be much more about experiencing totally new music to me (might start with kapustin piano concertos), and less like this video where i'm seeing what i think of the piano playing with something familiar to me. if i do more "comparative listening"-style videos, it'll probably be fully-crafted videos instead of reactions. i do have a lot to offer there, for those interested. ~ciao y'all~ --- All musical rights belong to the original creators and we thank them for their wonderful work.
