第一次踏上中国西北高原,独自徒步4500米海拔雪山:岗什卡雪峰,全程 7 km(上 3.5 km + 下 3.5 km)。 This time, I traveled to northwestern China to hike a snow-capped mountain. Since I arrived at the foot of the mountain around 1 p.m., I decided to hike only up to the base camp at an altitude of 4,350 meters before heading back down. The distance from the trailhead to the base camp was about 3.5 km, making the round-trip roughly 7 km in total. The ascent took me around 2.5 to 3 hours. There were very few hikers in winter. It was freezing cold, and the trail was muddy and slippery, but the scenery was absolutely breathtaking. Being surrounded by those towering peaks made me realize how small humans really are. I had a bowl of noodles for breakfast and didn’t have time for lunch, but I brought some glucose water and local rose cakes I bought in Xining. Having always lived at low altitudes, I was surprised that I didn’t experience any altitude sickness at all, although I did need to take several breaks on the steeper sections. By the time I descended, it was already dark, and I turned out to be the last person coming down the mountain — the staff at the gate were waiting for me so they could close for the day. Anyway, it was a great hike.
