Can a young grape vine survive the UK winter after pruning… and will it fruit in year two? 🤔 In this video, I prune 1-year-old grape vines as a complete beginner, using a simple method to give them the best chance of survival — and to avoid major “why did I let it grow like THAT?!” jobs later in the growing season. This is a real beginner experiment, not textbook vineyard pruning. I worked on three young grape vines, all pruned in slightly the same way, to keep things simple, repeatable, and beginner-friendly. No fancy diagrams. No complicated cane vs spur debates. Just a practical approach to pruning young grape vines in the UK that: ✔️ Helps vines survive cold, wet UK winters ✔️ Builds a sensible structure early ✔️ Tests whether grapes can appear in the second year 🍇 ✔️ Avoids heavy corrective pruning later in summer If you’re growing grapes in a garden, allotment, or polytunnel and feel slightly overwhelmed by pruning advice — this one’s for you. ⚠️ Disclaimer: Mistakes may happen. Learning definitely happens. Grapes… hopefully happen too 😄 🔔 Subscribe for more honest gardening experiments Growing fruit and veg in the UK without overcomplicating things. 👍 Like, comment & share if you’re growing grapes — or just enjoy watching gardening experiments play out. #GrapePruning #GrowingGrapesUK #BeginnerGardening #GrapeVines #UKGardening
