Modeled after the Living Library Project, our Pride Digital Library features the stories of trans and queer members of our communities. Each of the stories captured on film were displayed on kiosks at every Vancouver Pride Society event in 2017, for members of the public to watch and listen to, showcasing the rich and complex lives of individuals that make up our communities. Check back monthly as we release stories throughout the year! Born in Montenegro in 1983, Zdravko was actively involved in Youth Policies, Roma rights and rights of persons with disabilities before becoming involved in LGBTIQ activism. As a young individual, he was traveling the world working in England and Venezuela as a Social Worker focusing on homeless youth issues. In 2011, Zdravko came out as the first out gay man in his country due to physical attacks. Doing that, he became the first and only face of LGBTIQ communities in Montenegro. He opened the first LGBTIQ Shelter in the country, and the whole region of the Balkans. Receiving death threats, being humiliated in public and being physically attacked, Zdravko couldn’t leave his apartment, so in 2012 he became a protected person in Canada. In title, Zdravko talks about choosing positivity while living through adversity.
