Read the full disassembly article right here: https://support.common-motor.com/hc/e... Welcome to the first half of our vintage Honda CB350 engine rebuild series! This video series is not intended as a step-by-step instructional, but instead, something we hope will work in conjunction with the Honda service manual to aid in rebuilding your engine at home. CB350 / CL350 / SL350 Factory Service Manuals: https://support.common-motor.com/hc/e... We’re now opening the bottom end of the engine, which might seem daunting but is essential for a thorough inspection and cleaning. Start by flipping the engine upside down and resting it on the engine studs and the rear top edge. Remove all bolts securing the crankcase halves, and use a cardboard template to keep track of them. Once the bolts are off, tap the crankcase at the designated hammer points with a punch and mallet until the case begins to separate, then flip it back upside down and lift off the bottom crankcase half. With the case split, carefully remove the transmission shafts as a set. Be cautious with the small pins or half-ring clips securing the outer bearings, as they cannot be replaced. Next, loosen the four bolts securing the crankshaft center bearing holder, then lift the crankshaft out. Remove any remaining pins from the case. For the shift drum and shift forks, carefully remove the spring clips and metal pins from the shift forks using a magnet. Loosen the screw for the neutral light switch and remove the shift actuator. Then, slide the shift drum out, keeping track of the shift forks’ order and orientation. Reinstall them immediately onto the shift drum to keep everything organized. Lastly, remove the kickstarter shaft by taking off the snap ring and carefully pulling off the components in order. Since the assembly is spring-loaded, take care not to lose any parts. If needed, take a photo to ensure the correct reassembly order. Before jumping into reassembly, it’s crucial to: ✅ Thoroughly clean all components, removing old oil, carbon buildup, and debris. ✅ Inspect wear components for damage, excessive wear, or anything that needs replacing. ✅ Use the Honda Service Manual to check specifications and tolerances for key engine parts. A service manual is your best friend during this process. It provides detailed inspection guidelines, measurements, and specifications for every wear component in your engine.
