Can Small Farmers Fight Climate Change? | Kheyti × NABARD Telangana Partnership

Small and marginal farmers are on the frontlines of climate change facing water scarcity, rising temperatures, pest attacks, and crop damage from wildlife. In Telangana, farmers like Japa Ramesh and Padma struggled with repeated crop losses due to heat stress, pests, monkeys, and wild pigs. Traditional open-field farming made it difficult to grow vegetables sustainably or protect crops until harvest. Recognizing these challenges, NABARD Telangana partnered with Kheyti to pilot an innovative, climate-resilient solution the Ultra Low Cost Shade Net under NABARD’s Farm Sector Fund. This partnership demonstrates how affordable innovation, when combined with institutional support and farmer training, can unlock climate resilient livelihoods for India’s small farmers. Since 1982, NABARD has stood by India’s farming communities.
