Besides the obvious reason—to represent Japanese artists—what key things persuaded him that it was the right move to make? What were the strategic plans behind this decision in both the short and long run? The French gallerist shares insights about the adventure of bringing his gallery to Japan. In this intimate conversation, he gives us the lowdown on the pros and cons of being a global player in the field of contemporary art today. We also ask him about his long-standing commitment to the Japanese contemporary art scene and his interactions with its artists. ■Emmanuel Perrotin Emmanuel Perrotin founded his first gallery in 1990 at the age of twenty-one. He has worked closely with his roster of artists, some for more than twenty-five years, to help fulfill their ambitious projects. Perrotin has galleries in 7 cities (soon 8): Paris, Hong Kong, New York, Seoul, Tokyo, Shanghai and Dubai totaling 7,800 square meters (84,000 square feet) of exhibition space. Today, Perrotin (@galerieperrotin) represents some sixty artists and seven estates hailing from 21 different nationalities, and also works on an occasional basis with twenty other artists. 【Dialogue　概要】 Dialogueとは、オンラインで行われるトークセッションであり、３月２日を皮切りに５つのセッションを行っていく予定です。このDialogue は、日本と世界のアートビジネス、アートマーケット、異文化交流を育成・促進することを目的としています。また、同時に現在のアートマーケットの動向や状況を分析し、将来を予測することで、マーケットの拡充へのヒントとなることを願っています。 このDialogueプロジェクトは、アートフェア東京の制作委員会の一角を担うなど、アート及び芸術関係のイベントやセミナーの企画・開催・運営、コンサル業務をおこなうaTOKYO(エートーキョー)が、企画・運営しています。 私たちは、ニコラ・トレッツィをDialogue全体のキュレーターとして迎えました。 ［キュレーター］　ニコラ・トレッツィ： ニコラ・トレッツィ(1982年イタリアマゼンタ)は作家、教育者、編集者、展覧会制作者で、2017年からCCA Tel Aviv-Yafoのディレクター兼キュレーターを務めている。以前に、エルサレムのベザレル・アカデミー・オブ・アーツ・アンド・デザインのMFAの責任者を経験し、Flash Art Internationalの米国編集者であった。ムテンツ/バーゼルのKunsthaus Baselland、ワルシャワのUjazdowski Castle CCA、Peekskill NYのHVMOCA、パリのPalais de Tokyo、Art+Text Budapest、ブカレストのMNAC、ミラノのBUILDINGなどで共同企画展を開催。彼の書いた論考はartpress、artnet News、そしてテルアビブ美術館、イスラエル博物館エルサレム、ストックホルムのボニアーズ・コンストホール、ロンドンのニューポートストリートギャラリーで開催された展覧会のカタログなど掲載されている。またインドネシア美術大学、ジョグジャカルタ (インドネシア) 、シカゴのSAIC、ニューヘブンCTのイェール美術学校で教鞭をとっている。 アートフェア東京「Dialogue」プロジェクト 助成：公益財団法人東京都歴史文化財団 アーツカウンシル東京【芸術文化魅力創出助成】 This program is planned and managed by aTokyo. Nicola Trezzi (*1982, Magenta, Italy) is a writer, educator, editor, and exhibition maker and, since 2017, Director and Curator of CCA Tel Aviv-Yafo. Prior to that he was Head of the MFA at Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem, and US Editor of Flash Art International. He has co-organized exhibitions at Kunsthaus Baselland in Muttenz / Basel, Ujazdowski Castle CCA in Warsaw, HVMOCA in Peekskill NY, Palais de Tokyo in Paris, Art+Text Budapest, MNAC in Bucharest, and BUILDING in Milan, among other venues; his texts have been published in artpress, artnet News, and in catalogues of exhibitions held at the Tel Aviv Museum of Art, the Israel Museum Jerusalem, Bonniers Konsthall in Stockholm and Newport Street Gallery in London; he has taught at the Indonesian Institute of the Art, Yogyakarta (Indonesia), SAIC in Chicago, and the Yale School of Art in New Haven CT.
