Niviuk Open - Task Two - Goal First to be said: quite happy to be in goal today! I was quite happy when we got the promise that the weather will Improve, is already sun in the valley and we have a 72km task! Really wanted to fly the day. Once airborne, going through the “systems”, I noticed that the phone was not charging. Got cloudbase first, on a lifty line and started fiddling with the machines. The power bank seemed fine so it was quite confusing what happened. Changed cables, disconnected, connected, pushed in different ways the only button on the power bank… no joy. Well… I still had 35% on the phone so it had to be screen off to have something in case I land in the wilderness. I still had the Oudie to navigate and the bipper to make noise so it seemed all good. A bit put off by this, I played a little too much with the crossing and soon after I realized that I have to use outstanding luck to get back high with the others. 6 minutes before the start I have seen a cloud forming about 1km north of the start line, quite far from the gaggle and I gunned the glider to it. So the start was not catastrophic, almost cloudbase, not far from the line. There were, indeed many pilots above but I got some below to work with so I could breath. Got even better situation at La Paila climbing good. At this point I decided to go south, with the wind, that allowed me to be a bit lower. On the way, I could see already gliders climbing strongly so I was confident that I was still in the game… when I covered the sun glare on the screen from the Oudie to see something… and I could see that I was 2km+ from the little turnpoint of goal: did not take that, missed it. Well… that’s the moment when the XC flying starts. Relax, take the climbs, try to observe around… I am pleasantly surprised that I got only 35 minutes late in goal, I would have guessed that everyone was already gone by the time I got there. No way to make it in the bus of champions, the first bus despite packing in an outstandingly fast manner! :) We flew! That’s good! I made the whole exercise: that’s great!
