Carnbourne Botanic Gardens: A Hidden Oasis

The Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne is located in the South East outer suburbs of MElbourne. It's a 55 km and 1 hour drive from the Melbourne CBD by cart and around 2 hours by train and bus. You best off to drive there or catch a train to Cranbourne Station and a Taxi or Uber to the Garden. It's open Daily: 9am to 5pm. Entry is free and there is a good cafe and gift shop on site. The Royal Botanic Gardens Cranbourne is made up of the Australian Garden, an award-winning, contemporary botanic garden surrounded by over 300 hectares of remnant native bushland. Cranbourne Gardens is recognised as a site of State significance for plant and wildlife conservation, home to over 25 endangered or rare and threatened species. The garden contains over 100,00 plants in 1,900 species. Completed in October 2012, the Australian Garden was transformed from a sand mine and scrub to a botanic garden of international standing. You can also ride the Explorer electric bus around the garden. Rides are $15 per person for a 25 minute ride. Make sure you see the iconic Xanthorrhoea aka Balga Grass Plants or Black Boys. A cool water feature is the Rockpool. Walk 500m to Trig Point for views of the distance CBD and Port Phillip and Westernport Bays.
