Kriti : Rasavilasa Lolo Ragam : Kamboji Taalam : Aadi (2 kalai) Composer : Sri Swati Tirunaal Renowned musician Sri K. S. Narayanaswamy beautifully presents the Kamboji Raga Alapana followed by the rarely heard composition "Rasa Vilasa Lolo." He is accompanied by his student on the veena and an artist on the mirudangam. Shri. K S Narayanaswamy skillfully infused instrumental techniques into the gayaki style of music, showcasing the grandeur of the veena through subtle nuances rather than extravagance or loudness. His approach to the nuances of a raga was meticulous, with each ornamentation and gamaka having deep intellectual reasoning. His music was not about glamour or flamboyance, but rather one that resonates with the soul of a listener. When we hear Kamboji, we remember great compositions like O Rangasayee, Evari Mata, Shri Subramanyaya, Thiruvadi Sharanam, or Kuzhaloothi manamellam. Here, we can listen to this beautiful composition, “Rasa Vilasa Lolo,” which portrays Kamboji in another paradigm. The composition includes Jatis and Madhyama Kala Sahitya, amongst other embellishments. The beauty of your form subdues the pride of Cupid. You have a smiling countenance. Your glory is sung by sages. Oh, Kesava! You are the personification of purity and divinity on earth. Oh, Ramaramana! You are dancing amidst the cowherd damsels, who are overwhelmed with the sentiment of love. You give them immense joy by playing the flute. You also not your head and show your appreciation of their music while dancing with them by tapping your feet. The jingling sound of your glittering, gem-studded anklets surpasses the chirping of a swan. You tease those maidens in various ways: by offering Tambula (betel leaves), kissing them, and extending your arm outwardly to embrace them. By all these amorous games you enchant them and drown them in ecstasy. Your dance performance wins the adulation of celestial who have assembled above in the sky. Oh, most exquisitely beautiful Jalajanabha! one who obliterates the sorrows of those who surrender unto you! You are rejoicing in the Rasa dance!
