This documents the headlight restoration process on a 2008 Toyota Sienna using the Cerakote brand, Ceramic Headlight Restoration Kit. The kit was purchased online for less than $17 or under $19 with California sales tax. The finished result using the Cerakote kit is phenomenal. The cloudy yellow surfaces were transformed in the process and the 18 year old headlights on the Sienna look very close to new. The restored headlights now throw much more light on the road, brighter and with a longer reach, enhancing driving safety at night. So it's not just better looking, but a restoration of headlight performance. The chemical soaked pads, which are used for Step 1, dissolve the yellow oxidation but do not seem to attack the base plastic underneath. The surface discoloration is removed simply by wiping it away. Two pads were used on each headlight, four pads total. The crux of the headlight cleaning operation, and most labor intensive, was Step 2, using the abrasives. Just take your time, concentrating on a thorough result instead of a fast one. And wet sanding means it’s always gotta be drippy wet. Misting the surface frequently with water is mandatory. Especially because the goal is a clear plastic headlight lens, surface prep is everything. Application of a ceramic clear coat in Step 3 is the icing on the headlight restoration cake. It elevated plastic clarity from clear to an almost crystal-like quality. The complete restoration process took about 90 minutes including clean up afterwards. No power tools were used during this process. All of the work was done by hand as shown in the video recording. All video capture, iMovie editing and uploading to YouTube was accomplished using an iPhone 17 Pro Max.
