Rolled the dice with my brother today, the gauge was reading just a tad low and we figured why not? Lets do Canyon Creek, a sporty tributary of the South Fork Stillaguamish River that enters in just downstream of Granite Falls. After seeing all of the bigger rapids were portagable on other videos I found on YouTube, we figured it is short and if we don't like it, we can walk around. We were caught a little bit off guard a few times, there is a pretty popular video of this run that seems to underplay the significance of a few of the rapids. Nothing past the first ledge besides some in-between boogie rated anything less than class IV, especially at these lower levels. The first ledge looked fun but the exit seemed just a tad bit grungy at these flows, the line I would've liked to take out had a shallow flake on the left or a narrow boof on the right into a lot of cross current, without much warm-up above I opted to walk this one. After some quick boogie the canyon walls rose from the river and the small ledge was next, the left line could've gone but the middle boof had just enough water so I opted for that line and it went well. Ian walked this one and regretted it later. Around the next corner of beautiful canyon was the Boulder Garden, which was a bit skinny but the left line was smooth enough to make it through without any butt bumps, this is another one Ian regretted walking. A wee bit of boogie led us to the Headwall Rapids, which were a bit spicier than we had anticipated, Ian walked both of them and set safety for me in the pools below. Upper Headwall had a right to middle line that involved hopping up on a curler and then riding a ramp off into a hole, I bumped the rock a little and lost some speed but still came out upright. Lower Headwall was definitely a step easier and had a couple quick moves before fizzling out into a pool above Double Drop. Double Drop itself after scouting looked super chill, but it flushed into the top of Landslide really fast and a lot of the routes in the upper section of Landslide were too narrow at these flows to get the packraft down, and lots of pin potential if swimming out of Double Drop. We ferried across the river and Ian walked the entirety of Landslide past the hole at the bottom and I ran the bottom half to two thirds of the rapid and finished off by biffing it on the hole, luckily it wasn't as retentive as we had expected it to be seeing it in videos prior to our run. Below Landslide there was one more fun rapid not far downstream before the creek cuts through one of the most gorgeous canyon sections I have ever been through on my boat. While the run was only 1.5 miles the run top to bottom took us roughly 2.5 hours with scouting/portaging where needed. With 5.5-5.8ft on the gauge this run probably cleans up a lot but the rapids come quick and there are a fair number of pin spots, wood could be an issue but there was nothing really in play for us as of 11/29/2025 but due to the everchanging nature of rivers do not use this video as a guide to any current rapids or wood hazards. Also, the rocks are very very slick in here, be careful while scouting or portaging, there are some big boulders to climb around in spots and a fall could be really bad. Super amazing run though, challenging whitewater and incredible scenery and not too far away from home. I think with a touch more water and a solid crew I would be confident to run the rest of the drops that I left behind.
