It has a large square box that captures dirty water, and a smaller round water source bottle on top. You must have a mostly level table to mount it on, as the water is gravity fed, and if the table is not close to level it will either not flow or overflow. After washing your paintbrush, you push the button, the dirty water drops into the box, and is replaced by clean water. I found that a single button press would completely refresh the water, but I would re-rinse my paintbrush a second time just to make sure I'd gotten all the paint out of it. It does require some simple assembly (snapping the rubber stopper onto a plastic piece, sliding the spring over the button, snapping the button into the bottom piece, and screwing in a small phillips head screw to hold the stopper assembly in place. You will need to provide your own small (#1 Phillips head) screwdriver. The entire assembly process took me less than 5 minutes. At this price point, I'm quite happy with the performance. It's nicer than swishing your brushes around in an old yogurt cup, which is what I had been doing before this. The plastic water container has a snap on lid (which is very difficult to take off one you snap it on) but once you assemble it, you can just fill it up through the hole in the lid, and don't need to disassemble it. It takes a little finesse to flip the water container over into the base without dropping water, so I suggest turning the base upside down, putting it onto the water container, and then flipping the whole assembly over, which works much better.
