After a lightning-filled change of plans, we sailed 40 miles north and dropped anchor in Las Cocinas, a quiet and remote anchorage in the Sea of Cortez. With no cell service, no town, and no amenities, life slowed down quickly. We settled into our off-grid routine and celebrated Armand’s birthday with steak and margaritas while the wind howled outside. Las Cocinas gave us a few peaceful days to reset and wait for the right weather window. But eventually, it was time to prepare for our overnight crossing of the Sea of Cortez. This is what life on anchor really looks like. Locations: Las Cocinas, Mexico 👋 Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and follow our sailing adventures as we learn and grow as newbie sailors and explore the Pacific and the Sea of Cortez. Thanks for watching and sailing with us. ——————————————————————————————— About us Ahoy there! We’re Armand, Liya, and Pinot and altogether we’re SmoCo Sailing. Without a whole lot of sailing experience, but a dream of sailing the world we bought a sailboat and spent 4 years on DIY boat upgrades and repairs to transform her into a bluewater cruising vessel. In 2024, we waved goodbye to our jobs and set sail from Monterey, CA and never looked back. We’ve got no plans, no timelines, and definitely no destinations! Join our adventures aboard SV Cosmo, where we explore foreign lands and tackle life as full-time cruisers and part-time everything else: amateur diesel mechanics, plumbers, riggers, seamsters, navigators, and whatever other trade we need to learn if and when stuff breaks. SV Cosmo Cosmo is a 2000 Dufour Center Cockpit sailboat. Supposedly there are only 11 of these models built in the world, which would make sense since we still haven’t found an owner’s manual or proper documentation from Dufour. She is a 43 foot vessel with 2 cabins, 2 heads, and we’ve beefed her up with so many upgrades and features since 2020, she’s practically a whole new boat. 📸 Follow us on Instagram → SmoCo Sailing 🎥 Catch up with our shenanigans on TikTok → SmoCo Sailing 🌍 Connect with us on Facebook → / smocosailing
