Robert Giel: Das Handschriftenportal: Alles an (s)einem Ort?

This presentation was part of the "Open Research Colloquium Digital History" at Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, held on June 11, 2025. Robert Giel delivered a talk titled: "Das Handschriftenportal: Alles an (s)einem Ort?" In his talk, Giel traced the path from manuscripts as unique, singular objects through their cataloging and digital presentation to the Handschriftenportal as both a project and a digital platform. The guiding thread was the question of the “place” of manuscripts, data, and actors: What constitutes a manuscript as a scholarly object? Where and how is it made accessible within existing organizational and technical infrastructures? Within this landscape, the Handschriftenportal is positioned and examined. The presentation introduced key actors, technical frameworks, and scholarly concepts behind the portal.
