The Algebraic Calculus Two course begins by enlarging our arithmetical understanding in a rather general way. We show how to augment our arithmetic from polynumbers to polyseries, which are close to, but distinct from, power series in standard analysis. This introductory lecture motivates our treatment of this important topic, from both the Integral and Differential Calculus points of view, as well as algorithms from arithmetic, including quotients, square roots and cube roots.
