In this video, Texas eminent domain attorney Philip Hundl of Land Rights Law provides an important update on Phase Two of the City of Wharton Levee Project. Following years of flooding — including the significant impact of Hurricane Harvey — the City of Wharton, in coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and other governmental entities, is moving forward with the next phase of its flood mitigation efforts. Phase Two includes levee extensions, flood walls, sump areas, and improvements to existing sloughs and creeks — particularly around the north side of Highway 59, FM 102, and the Baughman Slough area. Right-of-way acquisition agents with HDR have begun contacting landowners, and some property owners are already receiving initial offers and appraisals. If you’ve been contacted about this project, it’s important to understand: What is being proposed on your property •The scope of the taking •How the condemnation process works in Texas •Your rights as a landowner For more detailed information on Phase One and Phase Two of the Wharton Levee Project, visit our blog at TxCondemnationRights.com.
