PUNCHING BAG turned the backyard into a boxing ring for their latest bout (performance). As usual, they left undefeated. The duo of Jahsy and Askari from Pomona, CA make songs that fall somewhere between rap and punk rock, and state their aims clearly: “[We want] to represent the misconceptions, microaggressions, and indefinite scrutiny (or punches) that Black youth have to stomach for simply existing.” We just included PUNCHING BAG in our 25 Artists to Watch in 2025 feature and this performance just confirms what we already expected. It's about to be a knockout year for these two. Medium Sized Backyard is a new performance series brought to you by Pigeons & Planes, and it's exactly what it sounds like—we invite some of our favorite artists to perform under the shade of a passionfruit tree in our friend's backyard in Los Angeles.
