Please watch in HD with English subtitles. AtomSpectra 3 is 16*40mm NaI(Tl) Scintillation detector assembly for gamma-spectrometry for use with iPhone, iPad, iPod, PC. 1. Construction overview. Scintillation detector assembly consists of 16*40 mm (0.63"*1.57") NaI(Tl) monocrystal, micro photomultiplier tube, low-noise regulated adjustable power supply, low-noise preamplifier and Li-ion battery with protection and charging circuits. 16*40 mm NaI(Tl) detector is effective for gamma-spectrometry in more than 20 Kev -- 1.5 Mev energy range. Typical energy resolution is 8% for 662 Kev peak of Cs137 source. Light output of NaI(Tl) crystals depends on temperature, so after temperature change calibration is recommended. It is not recommended to change temperature of the detector faster than 1°C\minute. Scintillation crystal is optically matched with 8-stage spectrometric photomultiplier tube. Anode of photomultiplier is separated from resistor divider for noise reduction. Photomultiplier is magnetically shielded. Photomultiplier power supply circuit is low-noise PWM type, output voltage is stabilized. Optimum voltage is adjusted, no user-adjustable parts inside. All power supply circuitry is hermetically sealed with silicone compound and shielded for emission reduction. Output high voltage is additionally filtered. Power consumption from built-in Li-ion rechargeable battery is less than 10 mA, so it can work more than 15 hours continously after full charge. Power switches ON automatically when the detector connected to iPhone/iPad/iPod/microphone input of PC sound card. The detector have two red-green LEDs : one for work and battery low indication and one for charge indication. Built-in Li-ion battery can be fully recharged from any USB port or wall adaptor in 1.5-2 hours. Battery lifetime is more than 500 cycles to 80% of it's original capacity, the battery can be changed easily. Low-noise preamplifier performs signal conditioning before sugnal output. Total noise equivalent of photomultiplier and preamplifier is less than 4 Kev. Dimensions: Diameter 26mm (1.02") Length 190mm (7.5") Detector weight 130 grams. 2. Sensitivity and load. 16*40mm NaI(Tl) scintillation detector have very high sensitivity: around 11 000 pulses per minute to microsievert per hour. It is normal that in typical gamma radiation background (0.1 uSv/h) you will see 16-20 counts per second, or 1000 -- 1200 counts per minute. ADC sampling rate is most devices is limited to 48000 Hz, so more than 1000 counts per second load is not recommended. 3. Software and technical tips. Freeware GeigerBot application is recommended for work with the detector assembly for iPhone/iPad/iPod, it's available in Appstore. There is nice manual for GeigerBot https://sites.google.com/site/geigerb... . Application for Android is coming soon. For some Android phones or PCs custom connection wire should be made: pinout of different devices are not the same. The coiled connection cable included in this auction is for iPhone/iPod/iPad. Freeware PRA software is recommended for use with PC. It can be downloaded from author's web page at http://www.physics.usyd.edu.au/~marek... . Switching OFF of absolutely all sound effects for sound input device is strictly required. Some Windows (especially Windows 7) drivers sets microphone gain to maximum possible at first start, so it may need to be adjusted manually during first run. Want to buy AtomSpectra 3?
