Perfect Timing by the Drive-by Truckers, the Building of the Cooleybird Guitar by Scott Baxendale.

Kent Hughes and I produced this music video for the Drive-by Truckers in 2008. It took over 7 weeks of Kent Hughes me building this custom Cooleybird guitar for Mike Cooley. I collaborated with Wes Freed on the artistic elements of the design. Wes is the long time artist, from Richmond Va., for the band who does most of their album covers, posters and t-shirt designs. I sent him a full size drawing of the guitar and he designed all the inlay, pickguard, and moon face but I did all the work to make the inlays, and inlay them as well as paint the guitar top moon face. As a luthier working in a busy shop you are never really caught up and there is always a rush to meet a deadline and always extra hurdles in the way to meet the deadline. This video tries to amplify that stress we have all felt at one time or another.
