History of Sangtam Naga Tribe Nagaland | Origin of Sangtam Naga Tribe of Nagaland ABOUT THE VIDEO Sangtam are the people who migrated from Sangdang (now Satami under Zunheboto District) which was their ancestral village. As per the oral history, Sangtam people, used to live in elevated platform house called Sangdang which means platform as per their traditional beliefs that they felt it proper to identify themselves by the pattern of the houses in which they live. However during 1889 the first mention of the word Sangtam appeared in the Assam Administrative Report, by the British. According to the ancient belief the Sangtam people believe that the word Sangtam has been derived from the Ao word ‘Satem’ which means ‘freely’ or ‘spacious’. As such the Sangtam were called ‘Satem’ which later on was changed to Sangtam by the British. Nagas are a group of people who lives in the Northeastern part of India and Myanmar.
