F. Handel: Ombra Mai Fu (from Xerses) Pierre Gabaye: Boutade ABOUT THE ARTISTS Flutist Gretchen Pusch made her Carnegie Recital Hall debut as winner of the Artist International Competition. She has appeared frequently in recital and as concerto soloist in North America, Europe and Asia. A member of the Dorian Wind Quintet, she has also collaborated in chamber music concerts with Peter Schickele, Anthony Newman, Maxence Larrieu and Paula Robison, among others. Ms. Pusch has performed with the American Symphony, American Composers Orchestra, Brooklyn Philharmonic, New Jersey Symphony, Philharmonia Virtuosi and on Broadway. She has been heard on radio, television and recordings for CRI, VAI, Panasonic, Summit, Innova, Mode and Windham Hill. Formerly on the faculty of Rutgers University and the Juilliard School’s Music Advancement Program, Ms. Pusch currently serves on the flute faculty of the International Festival Institute at Round Top and is a teaching artist for several fellowship programs. She served on the jury of the 2011 Maxence Larrieu International Flute Competition in Nice, France. She is a graduate of Boston University and studied with Julius Baker, James Pappoutsakis and Keith Underwood. Trumpeter Scott McIntosh was born in Carbondale, Illinois and raised in Austin, Texas. A graduate of the University of Texas and the Juilliard School, Scott currently resides in New York City. He has performed with the New York Philharmonic, the Metropolitan Opera, the New Jersey Symphony, the American Symphony, the Long Island Philharmonic, as well as many other chamber ensembles in the New York area. Scott joined both the Hartford Symphony as principal & Harrisburg Symphony as associate principal in June of 2007. Also an accomplished soloist, Mr. McIntosh appears regularly in and around New York City, and his performances have been hailed by The New York Times and the New York Daily News. Since 1980, he has held the position of trumpet soloist at St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church in Manhattan, working both with Gerre Hancock and John Scott. He has toured Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Romania, the Soviet Union, Canada, and the United States. His concerto engagements have included appearances with the Bucharest Philharmonic Orchestra and Tirgu-Mures Chamber Orchestra in Romania, the Scandinavian/American Chamber Orchestra in NYC, the Humboldt State Chamber Ensemble in Arcata, CA, the Brooklyn Bach Festival Orchestra, the New York Bach Ensemble, the Riverside Sinfonia in Lambertville, NJ, the Haddonfield Symphony Orchestra near Philadelphia and the Hartford Symphony most recently. While a member of the Saturday Brass Quintet, he received the coveted First Prize in the Walter M. Naumburg Competition in May 1990. Mr. McIntosh has also won First Prize at the 1986 Korwin International Music Competition, and was a finalist at the 1986 Munich International Music Competition. He has served on the “distinguished artists” roster of both Affiliate Artists and Young Audiences. Andrew Henderson has served as Director of Music & Organist at Madison Avenue Presbyterian Church in New York City since 2005, where he oversees an extensive liturgical and choral program, including the 45-voice Saint Andrew Chorale, the New York City Children’s Chorus, in addition to the Saint Andrew Music Society’s Music on Madison concert series. He also serves as the chair of the organ department at the Manhattan School of Music, as the organ instructor at Teachers College, Columbia University, and as Associate Organist at New York City’s Temple Emanu-El. Dr. Henderson, a native of Thorold, Ontario, holds degrees in music from Cambridge, where he was organ scholar at Clare College, Cambridge, and Yale Universities. In 2007 he was awarded the Doctor of Musical Arts degree at The Juilliard School. He was a finalist in the international competition Grand Prix de Chartres in France in 2002, and won first prize in the Royal Canadian College of Organists’ biennial National Organ Playing Competition the following year. Recent performances include organ and continuo playing with the New York Philharmonic, Musica Sacra, Voices of Ascension, The Oratorio Society of New York and The Collegiate Chorale, and solo recitals in Poland, Canada, and throughout the USA. A Fellow of the Royal Canadian College of Organists, his teachers have included John Tuttle, Barrie Cabena, David Sanger, Thomas Murray and John Weaver.
