Sony FE 24-50mm f/2.8 G 10Bit 4K Video Test (Shot on ZV-E1 in Los Angeles) It’s been 6.5 years since I shot my last review in LA. It was nice to be back. And this time, we have the Sony FE 24-50mm f/2.8 G lens. I know this is a very interesting lens, some people like it so much. But some, not so much. And for me, I really like it. In fact, I shot a San Diego wedding with this lens. First of all, the build quality is really nice. Very solid. Second, this lens is very light weight. I reckon this is one of the best holiday lens. Third, the image quality. This lens is very sharp. I can’t even tell the difference between this lens and the FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II. But of course there are a few down sides. First, I realized the auto focus wasn’t as sticky as the FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II. Second, the distortion is quite noticeable even with the auto correction turned on in camera. Third, the price. This is a not a cheap lens. For the price I think most of the people would go for the Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8. I know a lot of people when they heard 24-50mm focal length. They were like, it’s such a short focal length. Yes, 50mm might not be tight enough. But that was the whole point having the lens small. If you need that reach, you can always go for the FE 24-105mm f/4 G or FE 20-70mm f/4 G. But for me, I would rather have a compact lens with f/2.8 aperture than extra 20mm tele end. Plus I can always use the Clear Image Zoom to get that 70mm. Over all, I really enjoyed using this lens. It was really fun. I think this lens works really well with the FE 16-25mm f/2.8 G. That would be a great travel combo.
