Remember when Casablanca knocked off their own model? Pepperidge Farm remembers. This is a Casablanca Clairemont ceiling fan, model 5122D in polished brass finish with B667 Clairemont-specific high gloss rosewood blades, dated October 24, 1997. The Clairemont was a short lived model, first appearing in the 1996 catalog then disappearing after 1999. It's the same basic design as the Victorian, except with a style of blade iron that's common to imported ornate fans. The irons are still pitched to 14 degrees per Casablanca spec. The motor inside is a 188x20mm Halsey spinner motor, and the wiring harness inside the switch housing is also Halsey and uses a Molex plug. This also means that the factory speed control capacitor (demonstrated in this outtake: • Outtake: Casablanca Clairemont - Factory S... ) is a standard Halsey 8+6uF, configured to activate the 8uF side on its own for low. I changed this fan's speed control cap out for a 4.5+4uF out of a parts Craftmade motor, with the 4uF side activated on its own for low, in order to give it more 'Casablanca-y' lower speeds. Performance is identical to a stack motor Victorian. The only question left is... why exactly did this thing even exist in the first place? My theory is that it was a rejected Next Generation model. The Next Generation line, for those who don't know, was an attempt by Casa to sell their brand through Home Depot, and this fan came out around the same time that Home Depot introduced the Hampton Bay St. Claire to their lineup, which was almost identical to this fan. Why they didn't add the Clairemont to the Airflow line, which was their economy level showroom label, remains unanswered.
