All-new Ducati DesertX has been unveiled and no, it’s not an update but a completely new generation. The second generation DesertX features a new engine, chassis, suspension while the styling is an evolution of the outgoing bike. At the heart of the motorcycle is Ducati’s new-generation 890cc V-twin engine. The liquid-cooled unit produces around 110bhp and 92Nm of peak torque, with a strong emphasis on mid-range performance. A large portion of the torque is available from low in the rev range, which should make the bike more manageable in technical off-road sections. Ducati has also worked on reducing overall engine weight and extending the valve-clerance maintenance intervals, making the new engine more practical for long-distance adventure use. The new DesertX is underpinned by a new aluminium monocoque frame that uses the engine as a stressed member. This setup is claimed to enhance rigidity while helping reduce mass. Suspension duties are handled by a fully-adjustable long-travel USD fork at the front and a monoshock with a new link-type mechanism. The bike continues with a 21-inch front and 18-inch rear tubeless wheel setup while braking duties are taken care of by twin discs at the front and a disc brake at the rear. In terms of equipment, the new model gets a new TFT display with updated graphics and interface. The electronics suite includes multiple riding modes, cornering ABS, traction control, wheelie control, and cruise control. These systems are designed to allow riders to tailor the bike’s performance according to the terrain and riding style, whether it involves tackling loose surfaces or covering long highway stretches. Visually, the new DesertX retains its distinctive rally styling with a tall stance, minimal bodywork, and twin-headlamp design, but subtle refinements lend it a sharper and more modern appearance. The ergonomics have also been revised to offer improved comfort and better control when riding in a standing position.
