This piece came out of a surge of inspiration (coincidentally, one week before a recital). I had realized that over the past few years, I have always had colleges in the back of my mind when writing music. What chord progressions and rhythms would college professors like to see? This piece was the first one I truly wrote for myself since freshman year. I find it very interesting that it sounds much like my music back then, now with a more mature take on it. Only when the piece was finished did I realize that this was to be performed on my parents' anniversary. This inspired me to interpret it with some romantic undertones, as if the flautist were a French singer, serenading on a boat. I decided that supplementary lyrics would be a wonderful touch to the main theme. Lyrics: Oh me, oh my, what a perfect afternoon A night so fine, I’d like to dine out here under the moon Oh me, oh my, how the stars they shine so bright They can’t compare to your eyes in the light Oh me, oh my, what a lovely afternoon I hope to see you again sometime soon But just before you go, I would like for you to know Èpice fell from my heart to give to you As for the title, Épice is French, and it sounds like "a piece." Try not to read too much into it. Title: Épice Composer: Clement Pierre (yes, that is my French pen name) Flautist: Raleigh White Pianist: Caleb Payne A huge thanks to Raleigh for being my Deus Ex Machina and performing this on such short notice. #youngartist #composer #composition #musescore #ost #live #concert #music #soundtrack #sheetmusic #scorevideo #piano #flute #classicalmusic #romantic #france
