Key insights from our work are: #1 Early experiences influence life-long health and well-being #2 Using a self-regulation frame help us to view research related to toxic stress through the lens of resilience. #3 Self-regulation is the act of managing thoughts and feelings to enable goal-directed actions. #4 Self-regulation is important because it promotes physical, emotional, social and economic health across the lifespan. #5 Self-regulation requires a series of sub-component skills that build upon one another to enable effective action in complex situations. #6 Support of self-regulation is critical at each stage of development from birth through young adulthood.
