Series 2, Episode 1 - “We are equipped to survive. We are only interested in survival. Anything else is of no importance. Your deaths will not affect us.” Welcome back, faithful friends, to a brand new series of the Hit or Miss: Doctor Who Podcast. We hope you’ve wrapped up warm, because things are getting decidedly chilly as we head to Snowcap Base in the South Pole — and into our first examination of the cold, brutal logic of the chilling Cybermen. D.K. is your host for this one, guiding our podcast party through the debut appearance of the menacing cyborgs in a hugely important story that also just happens to feature the first ever regeneration. Joining D.K., and hoping the old body isn’t wearing a bit thin, is regular co-host Michael Wilson. We’re also delighted to welcome two first-time guests with plenty of experience of their own — and an undeniable passion for the Good Doctor — Stephen and Lynn from the Adventures in Time & Space podcast. Before diving into the main review, D.K. lightly interrogates our guests on their introduction to the Whoniverse, their favourite Doctor Who stories overall, and their personal best Cyberman appearances. Then it’s the return of the legendary (and if we keep saying it, maybe it’ll come true) Hit or Miss segment. This week, we debate modern Cyber design, an early First Doctor romp, an iconic and eye-opening new monster, and a Cyberman-adjacent human villain. Our intrepid crew then jumps into the main review, navigating those all-important firsts, examining the animated fourth episode (the original sadly missing from the archives), critiquing Hartnell’s final regular performance, and rating the companions and guest cast. Along the way, they discuss whether the Cybermen make a strong first impression, the pacing and limitations of 1960s television, Hartnell’s unfortunate absence from Episode Three, and a whole lot more than you can shake a Z-bomb at. As always, we wrap up with audience thoughts, our own conclusions, and final scores. So grab your radiation rods, keep your eyes on the skies as you hit play — and for goodness’ sake, keep warm. Yes… got to keep warm. Enjoy the episode. Links for Stephen & Lynn: Adventures in Time and Space: A Doctor Who Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/2bkCCRX...
